The Spread of Cancer

This article is an interesting review of how cancer moves beyond the primary tumor to create secondary tumor locations using the blood. It is interesting that the scientific study done at the University of Liverpool, has focused on genes that cause a more aggressive spread of cancer in some patients. It is understood that although the primary tumor can be removed with surgery, it has been found that the secondary tumors are much harder to treat.

In our DVD Cancer Conquest, you will find out why secondary tumors are harder to treat and what top experts are doing right now to combat metastasis in patients. A new blood test that we showcase in our DVD helps to identify these "rogue" cells that are spreading the primary cancer. The specialists have found that these "rogue" cells usually require a different chemotherapy to kill them than those needed for the primary tumor.

Science is evolving rapidly to understand how cancer spreads and this article is a good one to help identify new proteins and genes that all play a role in metastasis of cancer.
