Mice Blood Cells Raise Hope for Cancer Cure
The above referenced article discusses the fact that white blood cells found in cancer-immune mice were recently injected into mice with cancer causing the tumors to shrink and disappear. The injected mice have also been found to have a lifelong immunity to cancer.
The article states that:
"Preliminary studies hint at the existence of a similar resistance in humans and researchers hope that harnessing the biological process could lead to a new approach to treating cancer. The idea of cells being able to kill tumor cells ... is very exciting... but this is a mouse, and there is no guarantee that the same gene will exist in people."
The white blood cells in the mice were observed to surround any presence of cancer and attack it until it had disappeared. These findings are the newest breakthrough in ongoing cancer research.
