Novel Enzyme Offers New Look At Male Hormone Regulation

For the second time in less than a year, UNC Chapel Hill scientists have used a purified enzyme to repair genetic damage that was previously thought to be irreparable. The findings, published May 5, show the role that this new protein can play in gene activation. The biggest concept to come out of this: the newly repairable gene may stave off prostate cancer.

"Theoretically, this protein is a very important tool for gene expression studies. Practically, it provides a potential target for prostate cancer because of its enzymatic activity. And it is enzymatic activity that's the favorite target of drug development."
