What Causes Cervical Cancer?
The appearance of cervical cancer is most often preceded by precancerous disturbances of the cervix. Using a precise program of herbs, nutrition, dietary change, and special nontoxic suppositories, naturopathic treatment can often prevent these changes from becoming cancerous, says Dr. Tori Hudson, N.D., a naturopathic physician specializing in women's health issues.
"Each year there are over 62,000 cases of cervical cancer, with at least 9,000 women dying from the disease," Dr. Hudson says. "Naturopathic treatment could help lower the death toll considerably, as long as early treatment is emphasized."Often referred to as the silent killer, many women in the early stages of cervical cancer do not experience any symptoms. However, if you experience unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge, see your doctor immediately. Caught in the early stages, cervical cancer is highly treatable with an excellent prognosis for complete recovery. An annual Pap test, generally starting between ages 16-18 (or at the onset of sexual activity), is important in detecting cancerous cells before they progress. Later this year a vaccine should be available for cervical cancer, though it's long-term effects, and any potential side effects, on the young girls for which it is targeted -- 10- to 12-year-olds -- will not be known for some years.
The most common cause of cervical cancer is the human papilloma virus (HPV) which is spread through sexual contact. Multiple sex partners and first intercourse at an early age increase your risk exponentially. Dr. Hudson points out that numerous cofactors can contribute to a particular individual's risk of contracting cervical cancer, including smoking, poor diet, folic acid deficiency, oral contraceptive use, immune suppression, and, perhaps, exposure to environmental carcinogens.
My authoritative documentary video, Cancer Conquest, provides an in-depth explanation of the causes of cancer. In it I focus on the latest cancer treatments and medical technology, interviewing the most respected experts in the field. Click my post title to view a preview on my website. Cervical cancer does not have to be a death sentence. I have found that a multimodal approach combining the best alternative medicine treatments in concert with conventional protocols offers the best hope for successfully conquering cervical cancer.
