The Spread of Cancer

This article is an interesting review of how cancer moves beyond the primary tumor to create secondary tumor locations using the blood. It is interesting that the scientific study done at the University of Liverpool, has focused on genes that cause a more aggressive spread of cancer in some patients. It is understood that although the primary tumor can be removed with surgery, it has been found that the secondary tumors are much harder to treat.

In our DVD Cancer Conquest, you will find out why secondary tumors are harder to treat and what top experts are doing right now to combat metastasis in patients. A new blood test that we showcase in our DVD helps to identify these "rogue" cells that are spreading the primary cancer. The specialists have found that these "rogue" cells usually require a different chemotherapy to kill them than those needed for the primary tumor.

Science is evolving rapidly to understand how cancer spreads and this article is a good one to help identify new proteins and genes that all play a role in metastasis of cancer.

Loneliness and Hypertension Risk

A recent study done in Chicago has just linked loneliness with potential hypertension risk.
The study conducted by scientists at the Center for Cognitive and Social Neuroscience at the University of Chicago has shown that loneliness can add as much as 30 points to your blood pressure reading for patients of 50. The study went further to state that depression and stress can add to the increased blood pressure factor as well.

If there ever was a time to look for ways to engage yourself to decrease loneliness and possible even depression to live a healthy life this study reinforces the real need to do so.

Drugs Are Not Effective In Treating Depression

The Washington Post reports that in the largest most comprehensive study ever on depression, that it was found that drugs cure depression in under half of all patients.

This study was the largest and most comprehensive ever done on depression. It cost taxpayers $35 million and was the largest trial of its kind ever conducted. Not only was it the most comprehensive study done on depression but it provided insights into whether patients were really getting better unlike information accumulated from most industry sponsored studies that do not focus on the patient but the medication.

The impact of this study is huge and one that we hope will change the way that primary care physicians routinely prescribe antidepressant medication for patients without careful additional monitoring and adjunct talk therapy.

Antidepressants are dangerous medications and alter the chemicals in the brain in ways that are still not fully understood. In fact, what this study found is that there are many factors that affect depression and some that are still not fully understood by the medical community.

There is hope for safe effective depression treatment! In our new video called "Curing Depression, Anxiety, and Panic Disorder" we introduce you to the leading physicians, therapists, and doctors that have found healthful treatments that help to balance the chemical balance in the brain of GABA, endorphins, and serrotonnin. You will find out which neurotransmitter imbalance cause which types of depression, how to stimulate neurotransmitter production through nutrition and supplements. Fat and protein intake also play important roles on treating depression nutritionally. Hormone imbalances can also affect depression. You'll meet the doctors and specialists.

What you come away with after watching the movie is a new plan that you can use to wean yourself off these dangerous medications and a new approach to treat depression with nutrition, amino acids, and supplements. There is hope! Obviously antidepressant medications are not the real answer as detailed in this study as they are only effective in under 50% of the patients. The study even mentioned that in the real world, without the exhaustive safety net that the study provided, that the effective rate in patients would be even lower and possibly as low as in the single digits. This is a good reason to look very carefully at your treatment plan and make changes now.

Please visit our website to watch our free DVD preview and then buy our Curing Depression video online. The information may change your life and help you to find a safe healthful treatment. You'll want to watch this DVD several times and then share it with your family and friends you may save their lives.

Mothers Can Pass Depression To Children

If there was ever a good reason to get help now for your depression this is it!

This study has shown preliminary findings that mothers can pass their depression to their children.

"...But a mother's continued depression increases her child's risk of such problems, the researchers said.

"It is believed to be the first published research on the link between remission of a mother's depression and her child's mental health."

Although depression may have a genetic makeup, depression also appears to be an environmental condition. It may simply be that a child watching a depressed parent picks up the verbal and non verbal cues and lifestyle patterns cycling themselves into depressive behaviors unknowingly. That being said, for parents, it is crucial that they take a proactive stance in treating their depression so that their children will not be affected.

On our website we have help, real help, for breaking the grip that depression can have on mothers and fathers. We have found that there are safe, effective non-antidepressant supplements, and behavioral modifications that can be used to treat depression and to start on the path to full recovery.

If you are suffering from depression, please come to our site and get the help that you need today. The information that you find in our video preview and in our 2 hour DVD that you can purchase online may very well change your life and that of your children.

VNS the Vagus Nerve Stimulator

We read this article on VNS, the vegus nerve stimulator, with much interest in The Washington Post today. VNS is a new medical device that is being used to treat depression in hard to treat patients. This implanted electrical device attaches to the vagus nerve which affects the release of brain chemicals using an electrical pulse.

The article was interesting and spoke about two different patient outcomes. One was good and one was bad. As we read the article however, we became increasingly concerned that adoption of this is a treatment should absolutely not be rushed. We feel that there are natural therapeutic ways to effectively treat depression that are not intrusive nor invasive.

If you are suffering from depression we strongly recommend that you preview our video on our website at http://www.burtongoldberg.com/depression.html. In this free 7 minute video, you will learn about some of the natural and effective ways that depression can be treated. VNS may still be an option for you personally at some point in the future, but only after exhaustive use of other alternatives including natural ones and additional conventional options.

Hot Peppers May Kill Prostate Cancer Cells

This article found on Forbes.com mentions that Capsaicin, the hot pepper part of jalapeno peppers may actually kill prostate cancer cells. Not only did Capsaicin kill prostate cancer cells in mice, but also shrank the tumors as well. Research is still being done, but a natural product again has been found to be highly beneficial in the treatment of cancer. Capsaicin has long been used in cremes for arthritis and other joint and muscle pains, but now to be known as a potential cancer-killing naturally occurring chemical component is great news for today!

Antibiotic Use and Asthma Link For Children

This article is an interesting expose and speaks about the higher incidence of asthma in children who had been treated with antibiotics, usually for ear infections, during their first year of life. Research results so far point to twice the incidence of asthma in children who have had antibiotics during the first year of life.

We don't mean to recommend that antibiotics not be used for young children, but want to make sure that parents are being cautious and judicious with their use even when recommended by physicians. Ear infections can be caused by bacterial or viral infections. Antibiotic therapy will have no therapeutic effect for infections that are viral based. Make sure to ask your physician for more information about a prescription to make sure that it is really needed especially when treating very young children.

Viruses and Cancers

Did you know that several cancers are linked to viruses. One that we have heard a lot about recently is the human papilloma virus that causes cervical cancer.

Excerpt:
"Other cancers linked to viruses include liver cancer, cancer of nasal passages, some lymphomas and rare forms of leukaemia."

There is some strong scientific progress being made in vaccines for some cancers right now. The human papilloma virus will have a vaccine out later this year and several others are in research and development now.

We Are Living Longer, How Long?

Excerpt...

"In 1900, the average life expectancy for a newborn was 47.3 years; by 2003, it had reached 77.6 years. But people who turned 65 in 2000 could expect to live much longer, another 18 years. These increases are due not just to medical advances in treating chronic illnesses such as heart disease but also to people adopting healthier lifestyles."

Click our post title to read more about this topic. It is interesting that we are living longer in part due to medical advances, but also because we are becoming more health conscious in general.

Serotonin Levels Tied to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

We know and understand serotonin as a very important brain chemical and that when found in low levels in the brain may be one of the root causes of depression. Now we see from this article that low serotonin levels may even be a factor in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The brain is a miraculously complex organ and appears to be bathed in a dance of chemicals that produce the balance of our emotions. Too much or too little of these significant brain chemicals can create an imbalance that wreaks havoc not only with our emotional state, but also with our physcial body, and now, even may affect infants.

The article in our link talks on the gasping reflex and the control that serotonin has on this reflex. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is still not totally understood but this is one significant key in the research.

Certain deodorants Are Linked to Breast Cancer

This was an interesting article and one that all women should read. There has been an interesting study done and recently published in the April issue of the Journal of Applied Toxicology that points to a potential link to breast cancer and antiperspirants containing Aluminum salts.

We have long known that heavy metals such as mercury in fillings can wreak havoc with one's personal health and have consequences that can affect many organs, and now we are identifying that putting Aluminum salts on the skin may be of concern as well as they are being absorbed by the body.

Now is the time to look at the contents on the label on your antiperspirant and change to one that doesn't contain Aluminum salts. It is a simple thing to help lower your risk factor and one that you as an educated consumer and health conscious person can easily do by just checking a label.

Cancer Chemicals Are Everywhere

The article linked to our title is from BBC News and states that cancer causing agents have been found in British soft drinks at a level 8 times greater than drinking water.

This is definitely cause for concern for Americans too. Way too many people get a jolt of caffeine from diet sodas and sodas. Many of our children have become more obese in part due to the drinking of sodas and manufactured "juices".

We want to point out that there are great health alternatives to sodas and boxed or bottled "juices". Flavored waters, green teas, organic juices, fresh-squeezed juices, and even just plain water are healthful alternatives to sodas.

From the BBC here is a small excerpt...
"The soft drinks industry has known for 15 years that the preservative sodium benzoate can produce benzene if mixed with ascorbic acid - more commonly known as Vitamin C."

"Benzene has been linked to leukemia and other cancers of the blood and is also found in pollutants such as car exhaust fumes."

It is time to take a careful look at exactly what you and your children or grandchildren are drinking and actively seek healthful alternatives for your better overall health.
